    Packer to pay??

    http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-...-labor-leader/

Now we're getting close, however why stop at just asking for him to contribute. Why not just lease him the land and let him go for it??? Constant revenue return, better stadium (more events, more revenue), quality development, less risk, finished on time (unlike Perth Arena)......win win IMHO.

Is it just me, or does McGowan come across as a complete tool in all that?

"Burswood Casino owner James Packer should be made to pay for part of the new football stadium, Labor's leader-in-waiting Mark McGowan says." - made you say! My, what big teeth you have - made how? And if he just laughs at you, flicks you a $10 chip and tells you to go win it...?

“Every dollar you spend unnecessarily is a dollar you can't give back to families and I think we have to be real about that," - which is presumably why so very little got built under the last government...

“I was racing and gaming minister and the casino is a great venue for entertainment for people across Western Australia, but I don’t understand why, if the casino is going to be a big beneficiary of having a stadium next door, why Mr Barnett didn’t ask the casino owners to make a contribution?” - which is hysterical. I've never understood how Perth Arena had any sort of business case, but maybe it was all the money Labor squeezed out of the Citigate Hotel, the pubs and restaurants in Northbridge and the little Perth Arena convenience store that has opened up across the road.

"Mr McGowan said if contracts were signed and Labor got back into office at the next election, he wouldn’t halt the process but would seek ways to save money." - even more laughable given the management of the Perth Arena contract, but probably means you can rule out any clever architecture, moveable seats, anything more than extra buses, no parking, and expect some serious pressure for all football codes to share one ground. I can see it now - a big ground, surrounded by a number of mismatched concrete stands, built progressively to spread out the cost, oldest stands along the sidelines, biggest ones built last at the ends, maybe some bench seats to save a bit of cash, minimise the amount of wasted space like corridors, toilets and concession areas...

“I don’t understand what the issue is with asking the big beneficiary of a stadium being established to put his hand in his pocket," he said. - just like they were going to force Subi council and all those pubs, businesses and shops to do when it was Kitchener Park?

mate, as a educational leader in his electorate, I've met Mark a couple of times, shared coffee with him and such like at school awards nights and such......you are absolutely correct in your assertion. He's a party animal who will stop at nothing to big note himself. I guess that means he's the brightest star in labour's constellation right now!
