    Jobs on the mines

How many people on this forum work on the mines (FIFO) and what do you do?
I've had enough of my job and looking to break into the mining industry.
I've been looking at all different fields for the last 6+ months, had 1 interview (usuccessful).
Searched some mining forums and most people says you got to know someone on the inside to get your foot in the door.
Although I've been working in IT for the last 22 years, I'll even drive a truck or whatever it takes.
So I'm guessing I'm looking for some advice, connections or whatever it takes.
Applied for 33 jobs at Rio Tinto's data centre (all IT jobs), but again if you don't know someone on the other side........no chance.
Like I said I'm willing to do anything.....assistant, trainee, etc
If anyone think they can help, you can PM me or just reply to this.
Who knows maybe there is something out there for me

Are saying you don't get remunerated enough to be the one and only Official TWF Slideshow Artist

Sharpie again this year and Paddy D as Rookie, that will give you something to do between interviews

Just mines? There's a load of gas projects being built at the moment- worth a look, either in construction or skilling up in operating the plants- I imagine it'd be a very valuable skill in ~5yrs when all the projects are up and running and competing for staff.

Check out recruitment companies as well.

And - chevron, monodalphous, AGC, united group, McConnell dowell, cimeco, John holland, programmed maintenance, SCEE, enerflex, Leighton

They should all be chasing construction workers.

Go for an oil an gas project if you go construction. Mining doesn't pay as well. Could be the difference of 20 grand

Move to kalgoorlie. Get a foot in the door for a year or 2 with the small gold miners who'll give a job to anyone , get as many tickets as u can and then apply for fifo jobs.

FIFO is not all its made out to be there are a lot of cons and it aint for everyone. In saying that a lot of people I know love it and wouldn't dream of anything else. Personally I rather earn a third less and be home with my family and friends or live in the north west in a nice coastal town.

My hubby has been FIFO for over 23yrs! You are so right it's who you know....I'm also looking for another position...and it's tough! Hubby's a train driver....I think "we" should start an employment thread and put our CVs out there on TWF.......!!!! You never know who is out there!?

You're right Sandgroper. And that's exactly why there are a lot of unemployed tradies on the east coast and yet gazillions of unfilled vacancies for tradies on mine sites in the Pilbara - people don't wanna do FIFO or move west.
