Mmmm. It's a good thing he's an awesome tackler. I guess if forcing him to make tackles works then there is no reason not to have McCalman as a replacement for Elsom/Pocock. He makes his tackles and has a high workrate and is a line-out option. I don't know if I like Deans' decision but then again I can see why you might overlook Hodgson for the bench given that Pocock can and should play the full 80. So long as it isn't too early on in the game, McCalman would suffice for a Pocock backup.

Deans has called for a team who will be around in 2015 RWC... and doesn't believe openside flanker specialists will have a big impact at this RWC...

I'd like to congratulate the Faingaa twins for both making the squad... well done and I wish them all the best for the RWC...

One's a proven pile of poo who should concentrate more on throwing a ball straight for once in his life than tying up those ridiculously revolting chucks of dreadlocks hanging in his face. Uh. The other is yet to really get on the paddock, but I'm hoping he's the better of the two. Couldn't be the worse, surely.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

But the question is still (for me anyway) - are any of them a good open side option if Pocock can't start.

i thought Anthony Faingaa had a great game on the weekend, up on the opposition in a flash causing a turnover ( i think, i was very drunk by then)

That he surely did. I think it was impressive enough to earn a start next week.

Anthony doesn't make many mistakes and has excellent fast defence... really shuts down the opposition backs. Can play 12 and 13.

I think the Samoa game really cost some players spots in the squad. Hodgson was made to look too small for international rugby against the samoans, Beau Robinson was useless when he came on and Rod Davies blew any chance he had

Maybe Horwill is a sign..........The last time we won the cup our captain was also a lock 6ft7 (same height as Horwill) and also from Qld.
QLD also ended 1st on the Super log that year (Lost the semi final though...)
