    WHISTLING/NOISE DURING KICKS AT GOAL

Hi, all - and my apologies in advance for having a sounding off day, but .... ..... ...... ..... where are these people from who whistle, yell and carry on when someone is taking a kick at goal? That is AFL supporter behaviour, not rugby fans!

If 100,000 Welshman can keep quiet while an opponent takes a kick at goal, and then applaud politely if it is successful, why cannot Western Force fans?

It might be too much to ask that NIB Stadium should become a "cathedral of rugby", especiallly as it is made of scaffolding (oh no - another soap box issue!!!), but the least we could do is respect the traditions of the game.

RugbyWA could achieve this if they wanted to. All it would take is some announcements on the PA at the games, a note in the programme and a campaign on the website. Eventually the recalcitrants will have their neighbours telling them to shut up.

Come on, RugbyWA - give it a go!!

Or is that too much to ask?

    Cheers.
P.S. OK - I'll be quiet for another three years now, I promise.

If every journey begins with a single step, why does every signature begin with a statement of self-satisfied one-upmanship?

Have a look at any game of rugby in new Zealand, they boo and whistle louder than anybody else, and they're not from an AFL state......it's not AFL behavior, it's trailer trash behavior, and I for one don't get involved.

The disappointing thing is, MiniGIGS is picking it up and despite my best attempts, thinks he's helping his team.

At least he's following my lead by clapping the opposition onto the park and when they score (golf claps, admittedly, but applause just the same)

It is difficult explaining to my daughter and son that booing is not kosher. Especially harder when all around her week-in week-out there's plenty of that going on and they now think that's the thing to do.

Personally, I think the pressure on the kicker is greater when there's pin-drop silence.

Even worse when JOC got bood equally as loud as the Saders kicker.

Show some respect for the game and the bloke taking the kick.

Can't imagine aussie fans at a golf major.

I don't disagree, but careful what you wish for - I'd rather tolerate a bit of distraction during the kick, if the alternative is the disengaged (but very respectable) silence that you get at Brumbies matches even when they aren't doing badly.

From where I was sitting (eastern stand), the booing of JOC was much louder and was coming predominantly from the shed area - where the loudest pro-Saders cheering was coming from (and also where the red condom men were!)

I think the Force fans were marginally better than the Sader fans in this regard.

But all in all, disappointing behaviour.

Yeah, you could tell most of the JOC booing was from the kiwi hogans in the cheap seats who only cheered when SBW touched the ball

It was satisfying to hear the noise change from one section of the ground making a lot of noise to the entire ground making a shitload of noise when rabbit slotted the kick through

A lot of rugby supporters are new to the sport. They do not understand the gentlemanly roots of protocols for watching the game. I guess as rugby gets a larger supporter base we have to accept that this will occur, and if the booing arises from passion for the team, then that may be a positive.

IMHO though, much of the booing comes from those who should know better....

Please, could noone comment on my use of the term "gentlemanly roots" above.....

The one major difference between our team game and any other are the values and respect we have for all players and officials.

We don't have barbed wire separating fans, both teams shake hands after the game, a yellow or Red card is not argued by the player, coaches don't go yelling at refs from the sidelines and if a player is taken from the field on a stretcher both sides applaud and wish him a speedy recovery.

We have to keep these values and booing whilst an opponent is kicking for goal is the thin end of the wedge.

While the rest of your post may still be accurate, the last bit is a little dated. From your name I'd hazard a guess you might be from ZA originally? That wedge had it's thin edge driven in many years ago in the Republic, and in UNZUD for that matter.

All part of the spectacle nowdays, I'm afraid. Not much point in expecting the NIB crowd not to do it while all the oppo supporters are at it every week.

We never did boo. We did throw Mandarins and Oranges, not the ones laced with Cane Spirit.
