    T'was a glorious day..

Going through some old photos and came across some pictures from a time of..hope.

Yes, we would all love for the team to win and be the title contender that we all believe it can be, but at the same time let's not forget those early days when all we wanted was our very own team.

T'was a beautiful day..in more ways than one..and proudly, I share the photos.

As we look to the future, let's remember the past.

"Perth for Super 14" is now "Carn the Force!"

    An article from the day..

    Perth rallies to Super 14
    By Stathi Paxinos
    November 15, 2004

Western Australia continued its high-profile campaign for a Super 14 rugby union team when up to 7000 people rallied at Subiaco Oval yesterday to support Perth's bid to host Australia's fourth team in the elite southern hemisphere provincial competition.

The rally was organised by parents Jennifer Hoskins and Irma Cooper and their 14-year-old sons Tobias and Billy, who play junior rugby, to garner grassroots support for the competition.

Melbourne and Perth are involved in a battle to be named the host city of Australia's fourth team when the competition is expanded in 2006 and bid organisers will hand their final submissions to the Australian Rugby Union on Friday with a decision to be made early next month.

Tobias Hoskins yesterday said he was amazed at the level of support for an idea that developed around the kitchen table.

"Everyone has been so supportive, everyone is so keen to get involved, I just cannot believe how many people turned up and want this," he said.

"If this turnout and the spirit of this day is any indication, then Perth deserves it way more than Melbourne."

RugbyWA chairman Geoff Stooke said he was extremely happy with the response.

"Getting over 6000 people on a summer's day in Perth, when the beach is probably more appealing than being at Subiaco Oval, is fantastic," Stooke said.

But, Victorian Rugby Union general manager Ron Steiner said Melbourne's bid had been more concerned with concentrating on satisfying the criteria set down by the ARU.

"What they've done is very good, but at the end of the day the bid's going to be decided on the long-term future and commercial viability and they're the things we're focusing on," Steiner said.

"I'd rather see a crowd come to our game than to a rally, that's what our focus is. I'd match the spirit and commitment of 1000 at a Weary Dunlop (business) club lunch against any 5000, 6000 or 7000 that Perth care to suggest."

There would have been more than 7000 people but for Cosima Devito's efforts that day...

    Agreed

Plan for me was to head to Subiaco then the WACA but the Paki's capitulaed all out for 77 before I could get there. Headed to the Beach instead because it was a fairly warm day

I still have the Super 14 for Perth T-Shirt I bought that day

It is to my everlasting shame that I missed that day, arguably the day that convincingly shaped our S14 fortunes - not to play down the efforts of the bid team, but it was a masterstroke by the mums involved to show that the Rugby WA bid had such widespread community appeal. The VRU GM's response really hit the nail on the head. People's passion it seems didn't seem to be of much import to him, apart as 'bums on seats'
