Having not seen him in action previously I had no expectation, but doing well and being an outside shot at Wallabies in his debut year for the incumbent captains position are two fairly different things.
League form rarely means much for Forwards, which is a big factor in far more Backs doing the code jive than those up front.

Usually. But in Saffy's case he migrated here at 15 from ZA. He continued to play Rugby at Joey's in Sydney and went on to make the Schoolboys and U 21 teams as well as playing 7's for Australia and 1st Grade at Sydney Uni. It was only after those achievements that he went to The Tiges and Saints in RL. That's why no surprise. He was not converting just returning to a game he'd already excelled at.

Plenty make it that far without making the leap to Provincial and potentially Test
