As reported in The Age, "The Rebels' strong ties with Melbourne's business community have enabled them to snare the two hottest young talents in Australian rugby."

When the 4th franchise came to WA in 2005, there was an expectation that the "rich Perth resources and corporate sectors" would stump up money as sponsors or for 3rd party "product endorsement" fees. But that doesn't seem to have happened. The Force has Emirates (not uniquely associated with the Perth big end of town) and ET Mining, but none of the bigger players in the commercial, mining and mining services space are visible as significant sponsors/supporters of the Force.

Shallow pockets? Perth treated as only a regional office by the big corporate players in WA? Rugby not as popular with the corporate heavy-weights as people might have thought? Rugby WA not engaging with the big end of town in an effective way? Something to do with the sour taste left over from the Firepower fiasco?
Well, I spotto'd WA’s richest man wandering out the gate after the debacle last week, maybe his family's long term proud State standing will stir up some philanthropic gesture following the glimmer of hope in the Capital in time to save the day….

Twiggy is in my bad books after video was put on youtube of his henchmen trying to load a meeting of local landowners with bussed in folks.. was shameful!!

    but back to topic:
Wallabies winger James O'Connor is set to become the latest player to join Melbourne Rebels according to Inside Rugby editor Mark Cashman.

now we know who was spreading all those naasty reports.. vile rumour monger!

Cashman was on Fox Sports News on Thursday or Friday, and he said that he had a scoop about James O'Conner announcing a move on Monday.

That is where all these articles are coming from. Nothing more than the unsubstantiated words of some attention-hungry journalist.

For what it's worth, Bieber seems to have deleted the comments on Friday (re: only announcement on Monday...) from Twitter.

Not sure which way to read that... A Rugby WA order to pull his head in or not wanting to inflame passions ahead of breaking bad news.

BTW, want to know what losing the greatest ice hockey player ever feels like? King's Ransom is an ESPN doco on the events leading up to Wayne Gretzky leaving the Oilers in '88.

I don't expect the same in our situation (eg - death threats, acts of parliament, player uniforms burnt) but it's an interesting case study.

    Yep, right up there.

More than 20 years later, listen to a Canadian speak about it and they still hate it that The Great One left.

Not looking forward to this week.

You're right. My mistake. Sorry punters.

Did anyone hear the ground mikes about 10 minutes from time today --- someone shouting about "Australia's worst team" an "we're back, baby"?

Everyone needs to chill. 3rd party sponsors are still there, trying their best. Hopefully James will see the genuine passion of the sponsors and the fans and will stay. Put it this way, we can't be faulted for trying. Tonight showed what we're capable of and JOC must have loved seeing the show ponies captain fantastic and the brown dirt coyboys eating the proverbial poo. Loved it.....

He's gone and perhaps as with Gits it's for the best. We need a team built up from a good forward pack through to the fullback. One player doesn't make a team. It takes a team effort. Let's move on, relish the win today and look to the future. Let's face it - things can only get better from here.

Maybe something to do with having them all camping in tents at the ground....?

Let's face it, nib Stadium is streets ahead of Subi for viewing a game of rugby, but its facilities for rank and file members (and for corporate guests) suck.

There's not enough of anything at nib - you stand in long queues for everything. Thank heavens the Force matches don't normally attract a full house at nib - lots of bladders probably couldn't stand it.

Inviting guests to "corporate hospitality" in a tent can't be all that flash either.

I usually try not to be vindictive. But I've got to admit the look on Giteaus face at the post match interview almost made up for how I felt after the Tahs and Rabble matches. Suck it up princess. It was you and your mates that dumped the coach. So how's that looking now?
