It was hot rugby in hot conditions when the LJ Hooker Kalamunda Bulls played away at Rockingham on Saturday. In a high scoring free flowing match the Bulls’ came away winners 40 -33 in an exhilarating game.

Kalamunda struggled to get momentum early and needed a spark to ignite play. That spark was provided by their number eight, Brent Walker, who made some spectacular electrifying runs to swing the Bull’s into attack. Walker was well backed up by Captain Matt Peachey as the Kalamunda forwards gained ascendancy and the Bull’s went to half time ahead.

The Bulls’ didn’t have it all their own way in the second half as the Rockingham back line was always dangerous. The Bulls’ forwards again took charge, lead by powerful prop Fihi Kivalu, they continued to retain possession and keep the score ticking over.

Then in a disastrous period of play for Kalamunda, the Rockingham team threw everything at them to bring the scores even at 33 points apiece with minutes remaining.

In an inspired piece of play Kalamunda half back Charles Henry went blind, dummied three Rockingham defenders and beat the cover defence to score a brilliant individual try. The conversion was successful and the Bulls’ went into the final minutes ahead 40-33.

The Bulls’ supporters had nervous wait for the final whistle but when it came there was spontaneous cheers for a team that had fought out a hard game and came home with the points.

Best on ground for the LJ Hooker Kalamunda Bulls’ was half back Charles Henry whose control and game awareness was first class. Walker, until injured, was outstanding and Kivalu stepped up in the second half in an eye catching display of power running.

Other results saw the Colts go down 12-9 with wins to the 3rds, 27-8, and 2nds, 28-12. At Hartfield Park the women’s team outclassed University to win 30-0.
