    Reds trounce Brumbies in trial

Queensland Reds 38 ACT Brumbies 5

The Queensland Reds have shown why they're tipped to be among the frontrunners this Super Rugby season, thrashing the Brumbies 38-5 at Austar Stadium in Darwin.

Despite dominating much of Friday night's trial match, the Reds' supremacy didn't transfer to the scoreboard in the first or third quarters.

Both sides made a number of ill-disciplined errors throughout the game, but it was the Reds who stepped up to take control of the match and come away with their second win of the pre-season.

The Reds showed solid defence, preventing two early break-away tries by the Brumbies.

After missing most of the 2010 Super 14 season with a shoulder injury, Digby Ioane had a blinder of game both in defence and attack.

    Ominous.

    1. Jono Owen,
    2. Anthony Hegarty,
    3. Salesi Ma'afu,
    4. Ben Hand,
    5. Mark Chisholm,
    6. Mitchell Chapman,
    7. Julian Salvi,
    8. Ita Vaea,
    9. Josh Valentine,
    10. Matt Toomua,
    11. Francis Fainifo,
    12. Tyrone Smith,
    13. Andrew Smith,
    14. Henry Speight,
    15. Pat McCabe.

Bench: Ben Alexander, Colby Faingaa, Michael Hooper, Stephen Moore, Dan Palmer, Liam Winton, Robbie Coleman, Clint Sills, Samu Wara, Nic White, Jesse Mogg.

That was definitely not a weak Brumbies team. You would add Matt Giteau, AAC Rocky Elsom and Stephen Hoiles (but they are injured), Stephen Moore and Ben Alexander to the starting side but the rest are likely to start. I suppose that was the first trial for the Brumbies while the Reds have already had one but still.

What is worrying for the Brumbies and for the Force was whether the Reds were too bloody brilliant or whether the Brumbies were just plain shitty. We'll have to hope for the second option.

Trial results mean nothing. A report on the match would be better. You might find that, even though most of the big names were on the field, they deliberately played out of position to trial new things. It's even possible that they deliberately neglected an area of their game (ie numbers to the breakdown) to work on another aspect (eg cover defense amongst the backs)

If the brums were hard at it, and the rested players were either injuries or princes sing, then it's ominous, but don't forget, we spanked Queensland in last year's trial......look what happened then!

Oh....sorry, just preparing the found in case the force don't top the scoresheet this afternoon.

Looking at the fox sports writeup it sounds like there weren't too many rested by qld.

Obviously the injuries are going to make it difficult for the brums this season.

yeah trial results dont mean a whole lot...
The starting side for the Reds Rd 1 will probably also include A.Faingaa, Hynes and Higginbotham....Openside will be between Gill, Quirk and Robinson i think
