The countdown is on to the first explosive round of 2011 Super Rugby in Queensland with confirmation Suncorp Stadium will be ready for the Western Force on February 20.
The Stadium was damaged in the devastating floods leading to some events being moved to other venues but a recent inspection confirmed all will be ready for the Western Force clash with the Reds.
The announcement was made by Sport Minister Phil Reeves. “This is the news sports fans have been waiting to hear,” Mr Reeves said.
The game is set to be charged with emotion as the Reds use the match to raise funds for the flood affected rugby clubs across the State. St.George Bank will be donating “cash for points” for every point the Reds score on the day and KooGa has donated a special set of one-off jerseys which the team will wear and then auction off.
“It is great to see our key partners getting behind our community clubs and helping them to recover from one of the most devastating natural disasters in Queensland’s history,” said Queensland Rugby CEO Jim Carmichael.
The game will also be “Kids Free” which will see a free child ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket.
