    Sounds like he thinks he's the 12. I guess that means he's either the starter or left right out. A specialist 12 isn't going to see much bench time.

    Fwiw I reckon he'd make a reasonable fist of the 12, with big Willie and Mitch Inman either side of him that'd give us two straight, hard centers and rabbit injecting himself from 15 whenever we want. With the quick wingers (I'm saying a fit Shep and a fit Smith) there's enough scope to vary the shape, with some good go forward if required. As long as Gene doesn't try to get too fancy, he'll be fine.

    Where he see's himself may not count for much in the end though, he's made a pretty good fist across the board in the past.

    You'd have to look at Fairbanks as your bench 10/12. While you've got Ripia and O'Connor fit and healthy there isn't really a great need for a another ball player in the starting side. Particularly not one who is only 84kgs. So long as he isn't injured, I'd like to see Mafi get a run at 12.
