"Mother nature has unleashed something shocking out of the Toowoomba region"

Was tossing up whether to put this in "Ruffles" or "Clip of Day" but really it is a bit more serious than either of those.
I am just astounded at the news and footage coming out of SE Queensland in the last twelve hours, absolutely extraordinary.
Thoughts are with them all, there and throughout Queensland and the West Gascoyne too, in this trying time.

Must admit I am looking at in a bit of a sense of disbelief.
There is going to be far worse news out of the Valley tomorrow morning, have been listening to ABC Radio Qld on the Overnight program and some of the little towns down around Gatton sound like they have been bit by a bomb.
There is an inevitability about the flooding that will happen along the Brisbane River in about 36-40 hours and the dams are all at peak and need to dump water very soon too.
One dam is already releasing the equivelent of 5 Olympic sized swimming pools per second to maintain 144% capacity!

8 people dead in Toowomba, dozens more missing..

Looks like Brisbane could flood as well, currently the equivalent of 2 Sydney Harbors are pouring into Wivenhoe Dam(ie the Brisbane River catchment dam) every day, and its sitting at 154%...King Tide expected on the brisbane River in the next day or two as well.

Wivenhoe Dam is designed to hold up to 200% capacity for the exact purpose of flood mitigation, but they need to release water before it reaches that level.

Just amazing, my friend sent me through photos yesterday of the flooding in Toowoomba and it's just got worse. Thankfully she's okay, but she says it's pretty surreal.
They're now evacuating people in Brisbane - our office is down by the river and we've just heard everyone is being sent home.

Absolutely shocking! Not much can be done about damage but I hope that there is no more loss of life.

The Queensland Reds are planning to do everything they can for the communities throughout the state impacted by the devastating flood waters.

While the disaster across Queensland continues to unfold advanced planning is underway to ensure that an appropriate response can be made when it is safe to do so.

Last week players were scheduled to fly out to impacted regional centres to offer whatever help they could but those efforts were hampered by logistical issues and the changing recovery landscape.

The floods are impacting on all Queenslanders. Reds players and staff have friends and family who have been evacuated or whose property has been destroyed or threatened.

Reds players, whose training schedule has been disrupted, are instead putting their efforts into helping others, including Ballymore itself which may face flooding from the swollen Enoggera Creek.

Most of the players arrived at Ballymore this morning to fill sands bags to safeguard Ballymore property. Another group of players was dispatched to a Council sandbagging centre at Stafford to offer assistance there.

Already individual players are making their own contributions. Rob Simmons and Rod Davies volunteered to man phones during Brisbane’s telethon over the weekend. Both have been personally impacted by floods. Simmons was among those evacuated from Theodore with his family and Davies is from Rockhampton, also devastated by floods.

The Faingaa twins have announced they will donate their first match payments from the Super Rugby season to the flood cause and have urged rugby players throughout Australia to do the same.

The ARU is donating $50,000 to the flood relief appeal and is also working with the Reds on other measures that will further support the communities affected. Other provinces are in communication offering support and investigating ways to get involved.

The Reds are assessing the impact of the floods on rugby communities throughout the state. Many have witnessed their grounds, club houses and their own homes being inundated and will need help to get back on their feet.

The thoughts of all at Queensland Rugby are with those who have lost loved ones and property in this devastating event.
