As much as i hate it, Melbourne is unrivalled in Australia when it comes to hosting major sporting events. You would have to imagine with the massive crowds that AFL pulls that Melbourne per capita is one of the best represented cities as well.

It does host nearly all the major recurring sporting events on the Australian Calender.. Australian Tennis Open, F1 Grand Prix, Boxing Day Test, Melbourne Cup and the AFL Grand Final..

The only events that really rival are the NRL Grand Final, Sydney to Hobart yatch race, Australian Golf Open and the Santos Down Under(rising in prominence)... Both the Bledisloe and State of Origin are obviously up there, but they have rotated through Melbourne at some point or another.

    Rebels have defeated Fiji 42 - 27.

Mortlock played the first half and seemed to be playing well for his first game back on the field and recovered well from a big hit from the fijians.

Cipriani, Mitchell and Vuna also had a great game.

The match was more physical than those against Tonga with the rebels having more of a contest at the scrum and lineouts. A few too many handling errors from the rebels with the Fijians punishing them late in the final half with 2 late tries.

Pretty good effort overall, however still a lot of work to do before the crusaders next week and the tahs in round 1.
