Possibly two different starting XV's from the whole extended Squad and crossing over the Reserves?

The West Australian suggested it would be a 1st and 2nds team a few weeks back.

I'm actually going to the event. From what I have been told by a friend from the Shoalhaven Rugby Club (where the games will be played) it will be a 4:30pm kick off for the A squads and a 6:30pm kick off for the 1st XVs.

Doesn't sound much like this competition is going ahead...

Fiji will give their non-European based players a chance to win a place in the World Cup squad in a series of matches against Super 15 franchises and academies from next month.

Fiji will be playing newcomers the Melbourne Rebels and the Waratahs as part of their Super Rugby warm up before taking on academy teams from the Brumbies, Crusaders, Chiefs and Blues.

Yeah I think we can put this one to bed now. I'd like to know about all these sources that the original story came from...

    Full-strength 'Tahs to face Fiji

Waratahs coach Chris Hickey expects to be able to field a full-strength side for the Super Rugby franchise's first warm-up game against Fiji on February 4.

The Sydneysiders' eight-strong Wallabies contingent, including Berrick Barnes and Kurtley Beale, will join the Waratahs training next week for the first time since returning from the end-of-year tour to Europe.

    its all systems go....
Rugby World Cup 2011 preparations for Fiji, Samoa and Tonga will begin in earnest in February with the start of a new-look IRB Pacific Rugby Cup, which includes the participation of the HSBC Junior Waratahs.
The exciting format will see A sides from the three Unions take on the cream of Australia and New Zealand's up and coming talent as Super Rugby sides provide opposition for the first time.
The key development tournament kicks off on February 19 with three rounds of matches in Australia where the HSBC Junior Waratahs along with the Reds Academy and Brumby Runners will face each of the Pacific Island teams.
Fiji Warriors, Samoa A and Tonga A then head to New Zealand for matches against a Crusaders Development XV, Chiefs Development XV and Hurricanes Development XV over three rounds beginning on March 4.
The tournament culminates with a Pacific Island Series where Fiji Warriors, Samoa A and Tonga A will play each other over three match days on March 19, 22 and 26.
"The IRB Pacific Rugby Cup was developed to bridge the gap between domestic and international Rugby for the best locally-based players in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga and has been hugely successful in exposing a new generation of Pacific Rugby players to the rigours of international Rugby," said IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset.
"This new format takes the PRC to a whole new level and will expose the best Pacific Island based players to some of the most advanced professional Rugby structures in the world. In a Rugby World Cup year, this level of exposure is invaluable and will test aspiring national representatives from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga against full-time professional Rugby players."
Nearly half of the Fiji squad that reached the quarter-finals of Rugby World Cup 2007 had graduated through the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup, while Samoa and Tonga's squads also contained PRC graduates.
"The new tournament format has been developed in close consultation with the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Island Rugby Unions and in line with the IRB strategic investment programme in the Pacific Islands," said IRB Regional General Manager for Oceania William Glenwright.
"It will expose players and management staff of the Island Unions to the High Performance systems of Super Rugby teams, while also providing high quality games for those Super Rugby players not yet in the top squad. This level of exposure in a Rugby World Cup year is invaluable to current and aspiring national team players."
Fiji Warriors are the reigning champions and the only team to have successfully defended the title, having won in 2009 and 2010.

So the rumblings are have proved to be true. Maybe the other rumour that post-RWC all the Aus and NZ franchises academies will enter may come to fruition yet.

The Australian Series of the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup came to an end on Monday as Samoa A proved too strong for the Junior Waratahs, Tonga A picked up a first win against QAS Reds Academy and Fiji Warriors surrendered their unbeaten record to the Brumby Runners.

The IRB Pacific Rugby Cup 2011 now moves on to New Zealand, where Fiji Warriors, Tonga A and Samoa A will each take on a Super Rugby development side from the Crusaders, Chiefs and Hurricanes.

Samoa A and Fiji Warriors both accumulated nine points from the Australian Series to head the race to be crowned Pacific Rugby Cup 2011 champions, with Tonga A's win taking them to six.

The New Zealand Series gets underway on Friday with Tonga A facing the Chiefs Development XV, Samoa A taking on the Hurricanes Development XV and Fiji Warriors tackling the Crusader Knights.
