This has just been posted up on the Rugby WA home page. Who are the guys we should be watching for?

The RugbyWA Academy will bring renewed enthusiasm to the development of our local rugby talent with a new structure and new sponsor, BankWest, in 2010/2011.

Proud grassroots rugby partner BankWest have backed the new three level structure that will create more pathways for emerging young talent as well as opportunities for experienced players.

Level one will include not only schoolboys and U20’s representatives but will also provide opportunities for Premier Grade players like 2009 and 2010 PG Hampshire winner David Cloete to following in the footsteps of Emirates Western Force players James Stannard and Ryan Tyrrell who won PG Hampshire awards in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

Also part of the Level 1 group is outstanding young prop Gary Neugebauer from Hale School who recently took part in the Australian Schoolboys tour to New Zealand. Neugebauer, the only West Australian representative in the Australian Schoolboys side, started in three of the five matches on the tour and scored a try in the Test against Samoan Schools.

Level two will largely be made up of Junior Gold Squad players as well as some talented State 16’s. Level three will be entry level players aged fourteen and fifteen.

The program will run full time from November to March with the players completing up to five demanding sessions per week. The start of the WA local rugby season next year will prompt a change in tack for the BankWest Academy which will revert to a maintenance program focusing on club, school and state programs.

Players will be exposed to intensive skill and strength and conditioning programs, as well as player welfare workshops with the aim of preparing them for higher rugby honours and elite level competitions...
