Italy coach Nick Mallett is under no illusions as to the task facing his team when it plays Australia in Florence next month, describing the Wallabies as the best team in the world.
The Azzurri play three internationals in the autumn Test period, against Argentina in Verona on November 13, Australia in Florence a week later and Fiji in Modena on November 27.
But it is the middle of the three tests that has got the South African coach worried.
"In my opinion Australia are today the best team in the world alongside New Zealand," he said.
"They beat South Africa twice in the Tri-Nations and in each of three Tests against the world champions they scored at least 30 points.
"Not everyone can do that. Their backs, alongside New Zealand's, are the most dangerous in international competition and the new interpretations of the laws favour their way of playing and their attacking characteristics."
Mallett was speaking following the earlier announcement of the Wallabies' touring party for their European Tests next month.
