Nathan Charles In The Training Squad

Along with OConnor, Sharpe, Pocock, Hodgson, Brown and McCalman.

Disappointed there was no Inman, he has looked good at 13, and there is very little 13 cover in the squad. Also unlucky were Cummins (with the sevens I guess), Fairbrother (is he injured?) and Sheehan.

Pat O'Connor also made the squad.

    Here is the squad

Reading various articles in the last few days....

Cummo, playing 7s, expect him available for selection in the touring squad.

Fairbrother - Hurt at the 11th hour......even the Australian had him down as a likely squad member!....now that's news.

As for the Shetland Pony.........well I guess Genia nd Burgess are the incumbents and that makes him a bit old to tour. Both Genia and Burgess are making a pretty good fist of things right now, so Sheehan can count himself a bit unlucky.

Shep would have to be my pick for unluckiest bloke this international season. Called in late, didn't play a game, replaced by a rookie.....how would you feel.

It's funny to think Charles might not have got that chance if we hadn't had injury problems and brought him over from the Brumbies mid season.

    Very true.
I remember reading an article about Charles. He was getting ready for uni when he got a phone call to come to Perth. He dropped everything and headed over.
Shows what happens if you take your opportunities when they are presented.

Reckon he and Whittaker will both be there or there abouts for the Wallabies over the next 10 years.

And it would seem that Fitzpatrick has fallen off the pace somewhat.

I just think we have better loosehead prospects out there with Daley, Kepu, Robinson and Alexander all there.

Yeah. He was only ever going to make the Wallabies as a tight-head or both sider and he wasn't going to play 3 for the Force since Fairbrother and Dunning were favoured there.

Which is a bugger because he really improved during last years S14s, which culminated in him getting a gig at the Wallabies.
Playing hooker seems to have stopped his development, and he hasnt progressed at all.

Having said that he is still reasonably young for a prop. But so are his competitors for the role of LHP, so he is behind the 8 ball there.

I doubt Cowan would've made the Wallabies this year as a loosehead regardless of whether or not he had played hooker. Benn Robinson is just too good there and Ben Daley had an excellent season. Like I said he could've made it as a tighthead (Why in god's name did Maafu get a look in before Cowan and Fairbrother) but at the Force we have two tightheads and did actually make the initial Wallabies squad. I think if the hooking switch had have worked that would've been his best shot at the Wallabies squad (I don't rate Edmonds and I reckon Faingaa is a bit small and quite poorly disciplined).

Fairbrother is the Force prop I think that was really ignored here. He is a superior player to Ma'afu in my opinion - certainly in the set piece and he isnt too shabby around the park - yet is of a similar age. Fairbrother wouldnt have started if our full team was fit (ie: Alexander was fit) but against England he would have given stability to the scrum.

And the added advantage of Fairbrother is that he is a much more experienced prop than Ma'afu. While he hasnt been capped (for us or the kiwis), he has been around the block. That would have been important with Daley and Fa'ainga starting next to him.

Fairbrother, Dunning, Cowan, Longbottom and PAE. I would wager that Cruze Ah-Nau would be in the first level academy too.

Yup I agree that there is little to choose between the two.
