    Spies re-signs with Blue Bulls

Hopefully this is an omen for other Southern Hemisphere players staying down here post Rugby World Cup...

South Africa number eight Pierre Spies has shown his commitment to the Bulls by signing a new deal in Pretoria that runs until 2012..

The 25-year-old loose forward, who has played 37 test matches for South Africa already, indicated that it was an easy decision to extend his stay at Loftus Versfeld.

"I have received numerous offers from abroad and other local unions, but it was quite easy to make this call, said Spies, who represented the Blue Bulls from his primary school days.

Considering the exchange rate of the Rand against the Euros on offer, the Saffa players sure lead the way in the loyalty stakes.

That's my point - he's signed til October 2012 so he's hanging around for at least a little while.

There isn't going to be a huge exodus. There will be a handful of players leaving but the French and English are starting to tighten up how many foreigners they have and flooding of the market will drive down player prices and they'll be less inclined to leave.

I mean who left after the last World Cup (from Australia)? Vickerman could very easily have stayed, Gregan and Larkham left but they were going to leave anyway, Latham left and that was a shame but he was in his 30s. Why will this World Cup be any different?

dont under estimate the South African lifestyle as a factor.. there may be crime and violence but ask anyone that has come over from there and they will tell you that life in general is pretty damn good.
