Wallabies supporters might breathe a sigh of relief that the star five-eighth will be unavailable for Australia’s next Tri Nations clash against New Zealand on September 11 in Hong Kong.

All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson said that Carter has been struggling with the injury all year.

“It's reached the point now where it is restricting his ankle flexibility and, in turn, affecting his calf muscle strength, so now is the right time to have surgery,” Robinson said.
