Spiro’s Blood Runs Black at Bledisloe Time

Spiro’s Blood Runs Black at Bledisloe Time

It doesn’t matter how long he lives here, come Bledisloe time Spiro’s blood runs black and like most “good Kiwis” gives him, more often than not, a platform for pompous pontification.
It must truly gall him that they can’t seem to win a professional era World Cup to justify the All Blacks claims of total supremacy.

Shaw thing: a loss, no matter how close or courageous, is not a victory

George Bernard Shaw said that he welcomed every new book on the play Hamlet because the world was one book nearer to an explanation of what the play is about.

This aphorism came to mind this weekend when I read...

he makes a few valid points - particularly about Giteau and the ref.. but he also fails to acknowledge that Richie deliberately (good on him if he gets away with it) plays illegally at almost every ruck... maybe ive got gold colour glasses on but Maafu was not entering illegally if he was he'd be blown up for it.. incorrect entry is the biggest bugbear of refs and even Richie doesnt get away with that much these days.. what he does get away with is deliberately standing/lying in an offside position in order to slow the ball down. even on his own ball.. sometimes reaching back to pick up the ball from an offside position in order to try sneak past the defenders who by then are starting to spread out ready for the next phase...

Agreed Zim, there are a few points in there that I do agree with too, the point I was more making was the annual “holier than thou” stance from Spiro that we have come to expect from his post Bledisloe match articles.

It's really hard to argue some of his stuff, but seriously, does he really think that Maafu's ruck entries were any worse than the shit the Allb
Acks have been getting away with for years? As for counter rucking causing Australia to get slow ball, well there could be one other reason. Possib
Y, just possibly it could be be use Richie McCaw lives on his back on our side of the ruck..... At one point he participated in three rucks in a row, each one he drove through obstructed the ball and got up as soon as the pass was made.

He merely makes the point that Australians are happy to celebrate mediocrity in rugby. Australia, despite a vastly improved performance were second best yet again. It's embarrassing that we take pride in getting close.

The Fox sports commentary team are the most biased and deplorable version of "experts" that have ever been assembled. The biased commentary is so bad they should be dismissed immediately and replaced with a group that will at least acknowlege the brilliant ability of the opposition. It was embarrasing to listen to them whining like b1tches about the referee.

Australian rugby needs a big dose of HTFU
