    Pretty much - his party called for a new leader, he chose not to stand (the numbers would have been embaressing) when they voted.

    He backed himself into a corner which he could not get out of with any credibility or dignity. At least not enough to win another election ...

    He also learnt a good lesson from our previous PM John Howard about knowing when it's time to leave graciously ...
