Welsh tackle Kiwis in nude rugby

Ball skills were on display at a New Zealand oval today when a couple of teams tackled a game of naked rugby in Dunedin.

The Nude Blacks stripped down at Logan Park and took on the Welsh Leeks in the lead up to Saturday night's big clash between the two nations - the last time the All Blacks will run out at Carisbrook.

Despite the lack of clothing, the boys didn't hold back, sliding around the South Island field in front of about 2000 spectators, while former All Blacks Richard Lowe and John Timu were the referees.

Not hindered by a couple of streakers, reigning champions New Zealand managed to take down the Welsh side 20-15 in the seventh annual nude rugby tournament.

Players included high-spirited Otago University students and some of Welsh heritage.

Players of all sizes spilled into the screaming crowd, parents brought their kids down to check out the unique sporting match and a toilet seat was presented to the winning side.

Event organiser Ralph Davies said nude rugby was in keeping with the student-dominated city.

"Dunedin students are well known for getting their kit off and running around so that's how the idea really became and it's just blown out of all proportion since then," Mr Davies said.

While some might find the concept a bit crass, he said it was all in good fun.

"We're pretty staunch with our players about trying to keep it clean and tidy.

"Ok they're nude, families come along and they don't want there kids to see it they can wonder away.

"They're all taking it in the right spirit.

"It's not a nudie perve, it's a kick and giggle."
After 102 years Carisbrook, also known as The House of Pain, is closing and a new stadium is being erected next to Logan Park.

This is typically sexist South island behaviour. When do the ladies get a go?
