Great News out of the Republic

South Africa scrumhalf Fourie du Preez will miss the entire international season after opting for shoulder surgery which will keep him out of action for six months.

Du Preez, who won his third Super 14 title with the Bulls last weekend, saw a specialist on Wednesday and decided to have an operation on the long-standing problem early next week.

The 28-year-old du Preez, considered the world's bet No.9, will be sidelined for Tests against France and Italy later this month as well as the Springboks' Tri Nations defence and end-of-year tour to Europe.

Du Preez had already been rested for Saturday's one-off Test against Wales.

He has said that he will retire from internationals after the World Cup in New Zealand next year.

The title came from an overtired biased Wallaby supporter

Fair enough, I'm a Wallaby supporter too and understand the sentiment. I'm just never keen at rejoicing at other players misfortunes. (unless it's the pommy cricket team!)

Probably a good thing for the Springboks. He needs a rest before RWC.

I think its a bit different with some of the Boks. Any injuries to Bakkies Botha, Schalk Burger, Butch James or any of the dirty cheap-shot players should be enjoyed. Comeuppance.

Du Preez is about as clean as they come so thats a bit different.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

He will most probably be replaced by Cheetah half Sarel Pretorius So not much of a loss to the Saffas

Funny, I've never thought someone requiring surgery like that was ever great news

Having not seen the Springboks named yet, I hoped this was saying Grant hadn't been selected!

When I asked Andre Pretorius if he is going to stay with the Force his answer was and I quote: I will let you know the moment I know.....
So it looks as if there is something going on behind the scenes.
