    French call winning Sevens captain

    French call winning Sevens captain

    May 26, 2010
JAMES STANNARD has discovered that being the skipper of a victorious Australian team has placed him in high demand. Fresh from leading Australia to their first IRB Sevens competition title in eight years in London at the weekend, Stannard was named player of the tournament.
This sparked interest in the 27-year-old halfback, who has been overlooked by Australian Super 14 provinces following short stints with the Western Force and Brumbies, from numerous French clubs following the London final.
Australian Sevens coach Michael O'Connor has urged him not to make a decision until after this weekend's Edinburgh Sevens tournament in the hope an Australian province picks him up for next season. O'Connor said Stannard was a revelation, especially in taking over as captain from Pat McCutcheon, who went to Cape Town for the Waratahs' Super 14 semi-final.

Good to see the chucker has landed on his feet. Sadly I think he's not going to make it as a S15 Scrumhalf, seemed a little behind the 8-ball in relation to Chrisso and Chris was a bencher if we're brutally honest.

Hope he makes a shitload of money over there, and continues to play 7s for us.

Yeah, good luck to him. Dunno if he'll get any joy sticking around even if he gets picked by a S14 team. Probably better off with a longer term contract (2+) in France.

You may think with Kingi heading south his home state may have shown some interest in him as a back up.
All power to him, he's paid his dues and deserves a decent contract somewhere.
Probably will end up doing a Brocky on us!
