Did you play in just the one All Black trial before you came over here? Or were there many?

Funny that both England and WA started their club rugby around 1870.

Well 1871 in England with the 21 clubs that made it to the meeting to form the RFU. The poor bloke from Wasps (London that is) missed the meeting, there is the story he got the venue mixed up and got a little bit pissed.

Damn that WAFL for ruining it here. There's a story in that too.

Yes I did mean to add to my original post there is some serious BS floating on this site at the moment.

    A) Stop picking on the refs, they do their best.

    B) For a state that is dominated by AFL we are doing our best. It is not a quick fix, give it time to flourish with all the brit, kiwi and saffa influx. God damn its come a long way already, just give it more time.

Reds81, I've actually seen the advertisement as have many of the old guard in Perth. It was in an Australian Rugby Magazine about 15-20 years ago and whilst we couldn't believe it at the time, it happened. It was treated with some humour at the time. Today, clearly it wouldn't happen.

There must be someone in Perth who has a copy or who can also remember it.

My suggestion to you is pop down to Soaks and Cottesloe games in the next few weeks (senior grades as well as juniors) and tell me how many non-white players you see and what proportion they make up of the total player group. Then do an honest and direct comparison with other Premier Grade Clubs.

I've seen a copy. One of my mates showed me a copy 4 or 5 years ago.

    going to the ref situation.

ecky are you a school teacher by any chance? you never seem to take constuctive or any form of critsisum well.

there has been alot of people on here that have said the same things as me. i dont know you or maybe havent seen you ref before so dont take it personally.

you could tho explain to us what you have been told by rugby wa about the advantage laws? and also what is your take on the new law on moving away from the tackle situation once you have tackled someone.

we trained for this for about a month every session 20 mins or so. and for what? you guys pick and chose when you use this law. if someone asks you a question in the game i bet you think next time ill give a pen for not rolling away?

again all not on the same page.

    Well Oracle & Darkness

If that is/was the case, then I am blown away!!! Love to see a copy though.

Re the issue today, would demographics not be an issue there, particularly in the junior grades.

I had someone make a facetious comment to me that at one club you need not apply if you are Australian because Aussies don't know how to play the game. If you're a Pom or Kiwi of Saffa then you have it in the blood.
I suspect it was spoken with a bit of bitterness but *shrug* all this bitchiness is why I'm happy not to be involved in club rugby. (or any other sporting club. They all seem the same)

    Reds81,

Yes, clearly demographics plays a big part in the Western Suburbs clubs, particularly in the juniors.

My point is why have the likes of Cott and Soaks not recruited either a large set of battle-hardened maori front rowers or a couple of large, hard running fijian wingers in any of the last 20 years in any of their grades but particularly First Grade?

They have the financial resources and business connections to do it but have chosen a distinctly different path. I am not judging anyone here but merely making the point that each club has evolved differently and adopt different approaches to recruitment.

My initial comments were made because there is a lot of mention on this website of clubs importing players and paying match fees etc. Many of those comments are in fact false but hey, perceptions are reality.

The only club I know for certain that pays match fees is Wanneroo.

the reffing is pretty much the same as S14, different week in week out, and different between refs...
