Pardon me for raining on someone's parade, but if a Club called Perth operated from 1906 to 1910 and then ceased to exist, and a club called Rangers was formed in circa 1928 and subsequently quite coincidently changed it's name to Perth, how does Rangers aka Perth suddenly assume the history and identity of the earlier entity?

    Rangers/Perth centenary doesn't come about until 1928!

Or is it rugby IN Perth that is being celebrated? If so, shouldn't RugbyWA be taking ownership?

If anyone is going to be raining on someone's parade, you're the man for the job Frank.

You're quibbling over details. Perth Rugby Club started in 1906. Perth Rugby Club restarted in 1929. It's all Perth Rugby Club. There were connections. Things weren't so formal in those days.

WARU celebrated its centenary in 1993.

Cottesloe claim to have their origins in 1893 as the "Pirates" team, although the Cottesloe-Claremont team did not come into existence until 1929.

I'm with Fulvio on this one. I can't change my name to Winston Churchill and claim to be 135 years old.

Claiming links to an older club, even if it's run by the same people, doesn't mean the club can claim to be the same, At the very best, they can claim to be 86 years old (1906-1910 plus 1929-2010).
