    Weekend Trials

The only trial I have any info on was Palmyra v Kalamunda.

Kala showed that they will be force to be dealt with this season when they ran all over Palmyra to score comprehensive victories in all grades. Kala's tries flowed freely as Palmyra's defence was found wanting foray after foray.

Kala has recruited magnificently this year, filling all the holes that were evident last season and will be the team to look out for.

Palmyra will fall back to their usual situation over recent years of having one good season followed by a shocker.

What happened in other trials? Any great finds?

A Palmyra smokescreen if ever I heard one.
The first 2 25min periods of the senior trial were dominated by Kala, who scored try after try, but they were aided with the inclusion of Josh Tatupu and Dion Berryman to thier "2nd grade" squad. In the 3rd period a whole new Paly 1st grade team came out or the sheds and was far more competitive against Kala's "A" squad. Paly scored the only try of the 3 period early on to Hummer through a planned lineout move, although it did look like a double movement. After that paly semed to run out of puff, And Kala dominated teritory and possesion, and thier backline began to find a lot of holes. 4th period Kala scored the only try through Gillingham. Kala looked the more adventurous team with ball in hand and seem to have huge depth. Paly were ok won at scrum time.

Didnt see any of these magnificent recruits, Kala's one recruit didnt not play due to injury and the rest of the team seem to be made up of last years squad and 4 or 5 of last seasons under 20's team. Paly had a few of thier recruits on show at half back and hooker, thier other no8 was injured from the 10's but looks the goods.
Paly seem to have a touch of Bayswater about them

Details on the pre-season games scheduled:

    March 27 Palmyra v Kalamunda
    March 27 Rockingham v Wanneroo
    March 27 Cottesloe v Soaks
    March 27 University v Wests
March 27 Nedlands v Perth Bayswater
March 27 WA Police v Geraldton

    April 1st Palmyra V Rockingham
    April 1st Wanneroo v Perth Bayswater (U/18s)

I didn't see any of the games last weekend, but a colleague tells me the Cott v Soaks 2nd grade was of a disappointingly low standard. Dunno who won, but no-one should read anything into pre-season match results. Ever.

I will be able to report on the Roos/Baysie U/18s but I don't think many'd be interested......

Heard Wanneroo carved up Rocky but the Dogs have already lost a couple of players out injured for the season.

Rockingham will do it hard this season unless they do some extensive recruiting, and it's getting a bit late for that.

Not that Palmyra are much better off, mind, but on last nights trial they have a little more material to work with.

Wanneroo will soon replace any holes in their team. They will have the whole state squad at their disposal, won't they Elwee?
