That's likely to be pretty close to what happened. Just like most trials themselves, shouldn't be given to much attention. This Friday's match could give some indication of where the two teams are, given two hit-outs each under their belts.

Yes, Shasta qualified by both teams actually testing the same structures etc during the match.

You would think that, since it's the last trial before the season kicks off, that both teams will be approaching it pretty close to real match practice, but there's no guarantees. Reds appear to be going to trial Horwill at #6, if that backfires, expect to see him in a lower number come next Friday!

I think a lot of the trial runs are for late in match "what if's".
Such as with Horwill, I would never expect to see him start in the Backrow during the season, but what if they run out of Backrow options during a match type thing.
Far better to give it 20-40 minutes now than going in blind or just from the odd training run.

I wouldn't mind betting Quade hasn't had too much focus on the Force lineup either
He's been in a few other lineups though

Well, maybe they're worried that they have a fragile backrow and he's the most versatile lock they've got, so he's getting some minutes to cover that eventuality. He might start in a situation like that! It might also happen if they have no genuine jumping options at backrow and want to compete with the Bulls......

Depth a lock with the Reds, much like the Force, is fairly low. Give Adam Byrnes as much game time as you can in case he's needed.
