His younger days – André was born in Johannesburg on 29th of December 1978 and grew up in Alberton. As a child, he was a very big fan of Spiderman and was known to wear Spidey outfits whenever he could. Unfortunately we don’t have any photos…

School – In Junior school André’s favourite part of the day was break time and physical education. He later attended Hoërskool Dinamika in Alberton where he continued to enjoy break time and anything sport related. In 1995 André first made the Transvaal pool team and was captain of his schools’ first rugby team in 1996.

Family – André’s family is very tight knit. His mom, Jess, and sister, Michelle, are his staunchest supporters and regulars in the stadium when André plays. André’s father sadly passed away in 2001, just before André realised his dream of becoming a Springbok.

Hobbies and interests – André loves playing golf and enjoys fishing every now and then. He is a huge Elvis fan, and this is clearly evident in his DVD and CD collection.
