NEW ARRIVAL INMAN MAKES IMMEDIATE MARK

Mitch Inman has arrived in Perth ready to make an impact in the centres for the Emirates Western Force in the 2010 Investec Bank Super 14 season and he's already proved his fitness is top notch.

I don't know where the journo got the idea he is 92kg. He weighs around 105 and is a genuine power player. The Force bought very well.

We have a couple of big backs this year. You could run out a backline of

    9. Mark Swanepoel
    10. Sam Harris
    11. Nick Cummins
    12. Josh Tatapu
    13. Ryan Cross
    14. Mitch Inman
    15. Cam Shepherd

With an average weight of 100kgs. It might not be the most exciting way of scoring tries but if the pack is going forwards they'd be hard to stop and could put in some bone-crunching tackles.

Too right! give me an unexciting try over an exciting penalty kick/field goal any day!

    It's almost allblackish...

Why does everyone assume that big men can't play exciting rugby? Inman scored a pearler in the Shute Shield Grand Final for example.

I didn't say it was boring. Tries from constant pick and goes are boring (as far as tries are concerned- tries from pick and goes are still infinitely more interesting than penalties). Just that generally with the extra weight you sacrifice a bit of speed. If you have guys that big you will probably try to bust through players rather than run through gaps. Cameron Shepherd is another great try scorer but you have to admit when the little buggers like James O'Connor do the footwork to beat four defenders its pretty exciting. That try he scored in the Super 14 vs the Stormers was awesome.

Personally I find well executed positive play exciting whether it involves busting through players or running through gaps. O'Connor is certainly very talented, the more so because most players of this era are so much bigger than him.

I'd say that it is perhaps due to their rarity down here - but I find these type of tries anything but boring!

I love watching multi phase like the last few minutes last week, especially after 80 minutes when you know any error and you lose.
I have an awesome bit of footage from the Worcester-Bath match I attended last year, hopefully I can get a geek to work out how to upload it one day, classic example of the "art".
The late "extra time" ones sometimes have me wondering "Why the fuck didn't you play like that all match!?" And that includes the 80+ minute multi phase running Rugby too.
