looks good Tc!! ill watch it... the hollywood drivel that was "forever strong" can certainly be improved apon and i think a documovie would be far better a choice for promoting the sport in the US..

The trailer looks rather good. Hopefully the makers of this documovie can get widespread ditribution and allow as many Americans to see how great a game Rugby truly is. Thanks for the link.

By the way have you seen the 'Try' documentary. Three American Rugby player's quest to reach the RWC. Looks interesting. And of course can't wait for 'Invictus' to be released. Want to see how Matt Damon portrays Francois Pienaar.

I love rugby but I struggled with that one as well.

Nah, lets just say it won't be a classic but I'd suggest you give it a watch anyway..its rugby, that should be good reason to.

A small spoiler here - watch out for the Haka ("watch out" here means run and hide).

No, it's not that bad. It's a typical Hollywood teenage movie where the star is a troubled kid who has fallen in with a bad crowd and just needs some folksy discipline and cameraderie to get his life back on track and live up to the demanding standard set by his ugly-sports-parent Dad.

It's based on a real-life coach who has a track record of straightening out delinquent youth with his team, in real life the USA's most successful club.

It's just that it's typically hokey US fare, predictably handled, and has a few irritating elements. Such as the hero, a talented wing, being stuck into hooker to teach him to contribute to the team. Yeah right, that happens a lot. Ad the game sequences looking like a lot of actors rushing around a field rather than actual rugby plays. And the Polynesian members of the team explaining the meaning behind the ka-mate haka the team does with a load of bollocks about honour and family and courage blah blah, which has nothing to do with the actual meaning of that particular haka.

(The fact that they do the ka-mate haka at all is somewhat insulting. Who do these Americans think they are? It might be meant as a tribute and all that, but this is something that belongs to Maori heritage and shouldn't be bandied about by all and sundry just because they think it's a nice bit of sports theatre.)

But given that rugby movies are few and far between, it's worth a look as long as you don't expect anything too realistic or profound.

I'm not expecting much more from the forthcoming Clint Eastwood-Matt Damon 1995 world cup movie. (I bet there's no shots of Goldie retching his ring out on the sidelines...)

you'll be disappointed then if you do a youtube search for Haka and see all the random US teams ranging from volleyball, soccer, rugby and gridiron teams all doing some variation of the Haka..
im sure this is the reason why its been copyrighted.

heh, there weren't a lot of tackles that stuck in that 7's video... would have been good to see good tackles as well, it isn't all about great steps.

If anyone wants some context to the opening parts of that trailer... http://twf.com.au/blog.php?b=12

I'd like to get a good look at some of the old photos at the beginning of the clip from what I'm presuming are the Cal vs Stanford rugby games - I hope the doco has some news reels too!
