The iconic Cottesloe pylon has been toppled, a victim of the merciless fury unleashed by Mother Nature overnight.
The pylon fought bravely through it’s struggle for survival, earning the respect of all who saw it, however, it finally lost it’s battle early this morning, surrounded by friends and people who had nothing better to do than stand in the rain and watch a pole snap off a piece of concrete.
Originally, erected as part of an unsuccessful attempt to build a shark-proof net at the famous beach, affection for the pylon runs through the blood of all West Australians- not least from the tetanus contracted cutting their feet on barnacles while attempting to climb or jump off it.
Local news outlets PerthNow and WAToday have set up their comments facility, to leave your condolences to the people of Perth, on their tragic loss.
* First the trains stop working, Laura hasn't had any power for a day and now one of the few pieces of "heritage" here disappears into the Indian Ocean. Perth just doesn't do rain, does it?
