“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

Another thing I've noticed about O'Connor is his PHENOMENAL consistency. Can't remember a single missed tackle or dropped ball this year (sure there must have been point stands). Thats has got to be a huge factor in his consideration for the Wallabies. Deans has a real headache in trying to fit him, Giteau and Barnes into the side.

You heard this in the corridor of power also?

James is an amazing talent and indeed we do need to retain him at all costs. Please stay James!

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

Great talent but JOC was surround by some very good players making him look good and some very nice balls his way... He needs to keep is feet on the ground because the Bulls are a formidable team at home...

The Bulls will be a big test for James to see how far he had come in professional rugby in 2009....

First of all, thanks for the highlights.

If you have watched all his games (how many has he played since he started in S14, 10, 12 games ?), I am sure the answer appears by itself. He's been improving by the minute and his last two performances are a good proof for this. He has been amazingly consistent as stated above in this thread I believe. He never "messed up" something in a game, did he ? Not a single knock on, i haven't spotted a missed tackle either. He did make some mistakes in defense, but never with one on one situations.

Last year, Robbie Deans said : "right now, James is just a talent who needs to develop and learn from the best". Remember that when he said that, james only had like 3 and a half S14 games, and if it is fair to say that if he played quite well in those games (hence the rapid wallaby call up), he was milles away from his current level. What does that tell you ?

I am sure he is gonna be a big threat to the Bull's defense. and there is no reason not to agree on the fact that he is allready the best 12 in Australia ! Would you like to see someone else starting in his jumper the next game in South Africa ? I know I wouldn't.

    just my opinion though

    cheers !

He was a tad greedy in one game..that may have cost us at least one try...
    Must keep things in perspective..
Is Mitch at least a little responsible for his development...Hmmmm!!!

I think you're referring to the missed try when he had Cross and (Staniforth?) open outside him on the right and didn't pass. If you watch it again, I think you'll find that it would have been a tight squeeze to get it off fast enough through in front of a rapidly advancing Lions player. If he had seen it was on before he got the ball I think he would have passed, but suspect it was more a case of not seeing the opportunity before it was too late rather than being selfish. Certainly nothing I've seen in his game anywhere else suggests he is selfish for tries (great example in the Lions game was when he broke the line on their 22, shrugged off 3 tackles and was just 1 metre short when he gave the pop pass inside, albeit to a Lions player!! )
