Fantastic news, great to have another player make his intentions and committment to the Force clear. Hopefully a few more announcements like this in the next few days.

Cowan shores up Force stocks with two-year deal
    http://www.thewest.com.au/default.as...ntentID=138244
The recruiting tide has turned. Prop Pek Cowan yesterday halted the outflow of talent from the Western Force when he revealed he had signed a two-year contract extension.

Cowan’s decision came as welcome relief to Perth’s Super 14 club after a week in which Wallaby Drew Mitchell and chief executive Greg Harris announced they were leaving for Sydney.

Although No. 8 Richard Brown and back James O’Connor remain the Force’s recruiting priorities, administrators and coaching staff are delighted to retain Cowan because he is considered integral to the future success of the scrum.

At just 22, the 116kg prop is having a breakthrough season in which he has established himself as starter on the loosehead side of the front row.

Last year, he made the Australia A-team and his subsequent development has helped the Force scrum, until this year a point of vulnerability, hold up against the best in the competition.

The retention of Cowan will further lift spirits already on the up after last Friday’s record 55-14 demolition of the Johannesburg Lions.

The win, plus several favourable results at the weekend, boosts the Force to sixth, ahead of all other Australian teams, with a spot in the top four beckoning if they can beat the second-placed Bulls in Pretoria next Saturday.

The Force won by three points in their only previous match at the Loftus Versfeld stadium, in 2007.

“We’ve given ourselves another chance,” remarked coach John Mitchell after the bonus-point win over the Lions.

Captain Nathan Sharpe said the destruction of the Lions was further evidence the Force were not a team in terminal decline.

“Over the years this club has been through a great deal,” he said after the game. “But we’ve continued to play for each other and tonight was another example of that.”

Sharpe noted the Force were hitting form at the right end of the season but warned the next few weeks were filled with challenges, not least that of the Bulls.

“They’re a good set-piece team and they love to kick for field position,” Sharpe said. “Hopefully we won’t get caught short in that area.”

Mitchell is pleased with the structure and composure the Force are showing as the competition nears its climax.

“The pack is providing a good platform and the backs are feeding off the forward momentum,” he said ahead of tomorrow’s departure for Pretoria.
