    Rugby WA profit $850,000

Dave Huges from the West is reporting that Rugby WA will declare a profit of $850,000 for 2008 at its AGM on Monday.

However delegates will be warned that a less favourable result will be forthcoming in 2009 due to the drop in attendences at Spewbi.

Game night income is Rugby WA's second biggest source of income behind the $4.3m in TV rights.

I suppose a profit is better than a loss.

The Spewbie disaster is another example of lack of vision from rugby WA. A better solution for spectators should have been devised if they knew Spewbire was going to be the venue beyond one year. Temporary seating along the sidelines could have been erected for each game. Fly it in with helicopters if necessary. The existing arrangement is a glaring example of lack of vision, lack of imagination, lack of willingness to promote the game, lack of consideration for the market (the spectator). Rugby WA is a farce. $850K is small change for an organisation of its size and sponsor drawing capacity. It smells of incompetence. It reeks of mismanagement. It smacks of amateurism and an organisation out of their depth. This rare opportunity presented to the rugby community of WA is being metaphorically splashed on the floor of the urinal by a group of cowboys with no clue what they are doing

Even made it on to International News through eRugby:

    RUGBYWA IN SURPLUS

Rugby Western Australia announced a trading surplus of $A851,913 for the 2008 financial year at its AGM this week.

RugbyWA chairman Geoff Stooke says the reality of the current economic downturn will be reflected in 2009 with sponsorship, corporate hospitality, memberships, and gate receipts all down.

It is the second consecutive year of a surplus over $850,000, despite the collapse of major sponsor Firepower over this period.

Stooke says the surplus will allow investment in the grass roots of the game, including player insurance costs for all senior clubs.

$850k isn't small change. Look how much AFL teams lose and make and I'll think you'll find $850k is pretty good

Fremantle Dockers only made a profit of $1.5million last year on the back of about 40,000 members and double the home games of Force so its definately not small change in comparison!!!

unknown. the relevant financial year (when i saw their financial report from a couple of years ago) started out at 1.5, went up to 3.5 then finished at 2.5.

Don't confuse Subiaco Football Club with the WAFC. Subiaco now plays out of Medibank stadium (the old Leederville Oval), and have no direct contact with rugby as far as I know.
