Flannel doesn't make for good sporting clothing though.
And what would be their team colour? Tartan?

I reckon that you could get a decent backline from the NRL.Just need a forward pack.

    9 stacey jones
    10 Benji
    11 israel folau
    12 darren lockyer
    13 greg inglis
    14 vatuvai
    15 Billie Slater

OK you might not get these guys ,but Im sure there some up and coming young players that you could get.

Benji Marshall would break down during the warm up, he can be a turnstyle in defence at times

Israel Folau has moved into the centres with some succes this season as well

Surely there would be someone younger than Stacey Jones? He's 34 isn't he?

Wouldn't it also be a good idea to get SOMEBODY who isn't used to running into isolation?

    Stacey Jones?

He's 33 and already retired for 2 years. I know he's supposed to be making a comeback, but has he even played a match, has he ever played Rugby? He's about 3rd choice half at the Warriors I think.

I thought someone would have tried to get Cooper Cronk, arguably the most dynamic & creative half back in the NRL. He's signed to stay in Melbourne until 2012 now.

I'd add Nigel Staniforth (playing at Bourg-En-Bresse in the French D2) to that list of fullbacks.

Ok I'll change stacey for isaac luke the cheeky little souths halfback.

But stacey did turn the game for the warriors against manly setting up 2 tries.....he's still got it.

Hard to see union players coming back unless the money is better or they are homesick or they are sick of the cold weather. These are usually players that are at the end of their careers.

Stacy Jones played at the weekend agasint Manly, set up a couple of their tries including the winner I think, I wouldn't pick him up at 33

I don't know all the ages of those players playing overseas, but I'm sure a fair amount of them aren't that old??

Still got it then? I think Lance Hohaia picked up a serious injury the week before so that probably got him on the park. Agree - still too old to change codes, ay bro?

Given that it is an Australian Super Rugby side, you would probably have to source the converts from Australia.

But then again when has that hampered people, Brad Thorn puts his allegiance to Queesnland and Australia when he played League (although I'm fairly certain he never played for Australia), New Zealand in Union

Brad Thorn played 8 RL Tests. But I dunno how many are recognised because 5 were Superleague. He always said he had a desire, since he came to Oz as an 8yo, to represent the AB's.

I admire him a lot & credit him as a straight shooter who deserves all the success he's had. Not many would knock back an AB's jersey and a European tour because he (1) didn't think he'd learned enough rugby (2) had not earned it and (3) was honest enough to say that he was not certain of his commitment to RU and the South Island winters. He talks like one of us too. Gotta love that.

I think SL Tests are recognised as well as any other tests during the "War"

The main point though, that any converts that may be attracted to play for a 5th Franchise would have to eligible to play for Australia

wasn't there a different thread for picking a Union backline from RL?

Love it more if he played in green and gold though

Have the ages of most of them if you want them Jargs, just makes the list a bit more cluttered but happy to post.

Would love to see Israel on a Union Wing, he is a freak.

Not sure why I missed Nigel thanks Shasta.

Benji can stay in League, he would wear himself out running from Flyhalf to Wing every time the ball changed hands, he is a speed hump in defence.

    Not that neccesary

Do I correctly assume that not all of them are getting towards the end of their careers as Cookie pointed out?

Assuming he wasn't steam rolled onto the injured list first
