THE MBF FORWARD PACK TEAMS WITH EMIRATES WESTERN FORCE TO MENTOR OUR FUTURE STARS

Ten junior West Australian rugby players will enjoy the experience of a lifetime this weekend when they are welcomed as part of the Emirates Western Force rugby team, thanks to the MBF Forward Pack.

This innovative program enables young people in the community, who’ve overcome significant adversity in their lives, to spend four days being mentored by the Emirates Western Force team.

In 2009 the MBF Forward Pack focuses on supporting teenagers from the local Pacific Islander community within Western Australia.

The MBF Forward Pack also focuses on the promotion of physical activity, good nutrition and positive choices among the young. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to experience first-hand the training program of professional athletes, develop their teamwork skills and interact with positive role models.

MBF’s WA State Manager, Eric Granger, said the initiative highlighted the company’s commitment to support the West Australian community by helping inspire the next generation to be future leaders in their club and hometowns.

“We’re committed to helping both the community, and these talented young people, at a grassroots level,” Granger said.

“Some of these kids come from neighbourhoods where they’ve had to overcome serious social and health challenges. Therefore, we’re delighted to again help aspiring rugby players overcome adversity and reach their goals via the MBF Forward Pack.”

RugbyWA CEO Greg Harris said that the program is now in its third year and has already delivered some fantastic outcomes for young people in WA, and will continue to do so under the MBF banner.

“What a great opportunity for these kids. I think it’s great for kids to have the affiliation with professional players and it can have a really positive effect on their lives and their community.

“Some of the stories about what these kids are facing have had a real impact on members of the team and any help we can provide in showing them how to achieve their goals is a plus for us,” Harris said.

The 2009 MBF Forward Pack program will commence on Thursday 19 March and run through until Sunday 22 March, incorporating the Emirates Western Force match against the Sharks.

I don't know if anyone else read the Super rugby liftout in the West today but there was an interesting bit about the big islander brother program they had going. They mentioned a 15 year old guy who plays as a prop from last years program- 110kg at fifteen. It's nice to know there is a lot of potential out there in the young-ins. It pisses me off with the Easties always expecting WA to pump out Super 14 quality players over night. In three years fingers crossed we will have a third to a quarter of the squad local.

Yeah James, 6ft and 110kg at fifteen! You'd hope his mum is unusually lucky with the meat raffles...

Yeah. If God left some stuff out, he certainly made sure there was plenty of room to add it later!

Yeah, pretty much the same. This article didn't mention the 110kg guy though did it?
