    Stamp Collectors?

    Hahaha

I've been going through copious amounts of my dads stamps, it is completely wack how many he has!!! serioulsy his collection starts from about 1901 ... I had no idea he was that old!

any ways I don't know if any one collects stamps or has a knowledge of stamps I'm looking for some decent websites were I can see what sort of prices they ae selling for and their condition... I know I could go to a valuer ... but I hink it will be more fun to do it myself! and I can sort out the crappy stamps from the ones that may be worth a bit!

not planning on selling aything I think my dad should have them under his insurance though!

Crazy stamp facts though, an Australian stamp found in a kids collection was auctioned off for $44,000 (I forget whether it was pounds or AUD) either way though!

I think I would be more classified as a stamp horder than a stamp collector anymore! Have a whopping great carton of them somewhere from my childhood, unless the termites have got to them.

I wonder how many more years stamps will exist for...

Lonzy it is in fact me that collects. Try the APTA or ANDA sites.
    http://www.anda.com.au/
    http://www.apta.com.au/

They will have links to members and usually online auctions. If you are doing it for insurance purposes i would suggest getting a few valuations done by different dealers because just because one stamp the same as what you dad has sells for a certain value doesnt mean his will. It has alot to do with quality of the stamp and marks etc. Also the value of replacing stamps individually is going to be alot different to replacing them all as a collection.

I did notice ANDA has a show coming up in perth that you could see several dealers at in the one place.

Also take photos of EVERY stamp if you want it for insurance.

Edit that show is this weekend at burswood.

Back when I was an insurance assessing dude I would regularly use Mickel Smits in London Court to help value this kind of stuff.

And yes, I fully endorse noting them on the insurance policy, unless he really doesn't care about them and doesn't want to claim their value...

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Other then what i said earlier Lonz you can get a little book that is a catalogue of Australian stamps that is updated every year that will give you a roungh guide of what they are worth.

Good if his collection is just australian expensive if it is a world collection. That catalogue last i saw was 4 books the size of the yellow pages and cost about $400 brand new.

    Lonzy, I'm a philatelist.

Your dad's stamps are worth nothing.

As a special favour to you, I'll take them off your hands for $5.

    When can you deliver them?

Some really rare ones like penny reds (1840 ) and Cape of Good hope stamps from around the turn of the century.. youll probably hate me but i really havent looked after them as well as i shouldve...
