I agree If C O'Y wasn't arguing with the ref and fed the ball on time we would have won that scrum as well
Thanks for the analysis I think it is a pretty good summary of how the scrums went

Nice work BB - much appreciated. I don't know about every one else but I wouldn't mind if you did this every week.

AJ scored 18 points in the Fantasy rugby so he must have done something right

I'm not sure I agree with your assessments. The Force were under a lot of pressure on their own feed. They often won the ball but it wasn't a great base from which to attack. The opposition pressured our scrum and we couldn't launch attacks from the set piece. Gits kicked it too much

How about some running rugby from the attack coach?

I think that most of our set piece problems was caused by Chris O Young He was slow to put the ball in at the scrums He was slow to retrieve it from the rucks and malls and he was slow to let it go when receiving it from the lineouts He also tried to run the ball from behind the scrum while being in his own 22.

I would also like to see a thread like this each week. Having not played the game I sometimes find the scrum a little bit of a mystery. I'd like to learn more about it.

I can tell you from watching so much Northern Hemisphere rugby that the half back is going to be under pressure from the ref alot more now.

Get it in quick and get it in straight, the IRB want it cracked down on. Also I noticed how many players just dive onto rucks still down here. The NH have really been cracking down on this as well. Yeah we all used to do it but now you have to stay on your feet or you'll get penalisied. I know it was always the rule but so was feeding the scrum straight and how many times have you seen the halfback penalised for that, rarely. Not any more though they are really tightening up. Just don't get pissed if the boys are getting slammed for diving onto a ruck and killing the ball.

At least it's only a free kick down here, up there it's a penalty. Can be alot costlier near the posts.

Another issue is the non neutral ref, not good. I think the ref goes alot harder on the team of the country he is from just to state a point that he's not being biased to his own country men.

i thought that they did well against the ABs front row, several times our scrum was going forward when COY was pinged for not putting the ball in,but overall an improvement.
We also need a Western Force commentator on the foxsports comentary team, getting sick of hearing the negative views of the representatives of the other 3 auusie teams>What happened to welborn and cannon......

This is simply a perception issue. It is not reality, especially with the IRB/professional refs.

In my own case, I played for Uni many moons ago. I really don't care if they win or lose when I referee them. I am very sure the S14 refs are similarly opinioned.

Removing the neutral refs will ensure the final is refereed by the best ref. Prior to this year, it was refereed by the best ref not from the country playing.

Non neutral refs is good. Will work. WIll give many fans much more to whinge about when their team loses

Back to topic...I thought O'Young was slow to feed because of an unstable tunnel, I clearly remember one scrum where he was pinged for not feeding but lit looked like he had to run to keep up with them

not blaming the ref so much as our scrum who were unable to control the scrum on our feed.

Considering I thought we'd get smashed in the scrum this week, I was reasonably satisfied to see it go the way it did. We'll need to play really smart this week, those Cheetahs are HUUUUUUGE

Yeah CO'Y had a bad game yeah but be fair to the guy- he played 80 minutes with almost zero pre-season game time and probably not 100% coming back from injury and had a lot of pressure on him as we were being owned by an international front row. Like you say GIGS it wasn't too bad really and I don't think it will get any harder. Cheetahs will be tough up front but the pressure might be off a little elsewhere. I hope.

Observations from the game - watching as a supporter: a couple of errors in law in the first 20 mins (approx). Other than that, he wasn't noticed much, therefore he must've been ok. THAT forward pass call was from his AR, by the way.

If I can, I will watch the game on telly (sound down, of course) and report further.
