    Press Release: Emirates Airlines

Emirates Donates A$500,000 To Bushfire Appeal

Emirates Airline today announced that it will support Australia’s bushfire relief initiatives by donating more than 100 international tickets and onboard products worth A$500,000.

Emirates will provide return flights from any point on its 101-city global network to immediate family members of those killed or severely injured by the bushfires and in need of assistance to return home to Melbourne, Victoria. Emirates is working closely with the Victoria Government to ensure these flights are directed to families most in need.

Up to two members can fly, and travel can take place until May 2009. The programme will be administered by the Victorian Government’s Department of Human Services (www.dhs.vic.gov.au/home). People needing assistance will be assessed by the Department on a needs basis.

The Dubai-based carrier will also be donating 10 Business Class return tickets, valid for travel from Australia to Europe, to its sponsorship partners Collingwood Football Club, Emirates Western Force, Victoria Racing Club, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Cricket Australia to be auctioned in order to raise funds. Cricket Australia’s charity division, Cricket Care, has successfully raised funds at recent games and an additional opportunity by way of Emirates’ tickets will boost its existing relief efforts.

Stephen Pearse, Emirates’ Vice President Australia, said: “Emirates is shocked and saddened by the human devastation and carnage caused by the Victorian bushfires, and sends its deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, homes and livelihoods as a result of the fires.”

Yesterday Emirates dispatched 2,000 premium amenity kits to the Salvation Army in Victoria intended for victims of the fires and volunteer fire fighters. ENDS
