Anderson Report into John Mitchell Accepted by RugbyWA

"The Anderson Report has been received and its content and recommendations have been accepted by the Board.

A number of issues have been identified and consistent with the recommendations from Mr Anderson, action has, or will be taken to address these issues.

The issues will remain confidential and are matters for the Board and Management. However, it is acknowledged that one of the major outcomes from the Report is to ensure greater ‘buy in’ from support staff and players and to have maximum utilization of the personnel resources within the organisation. This has commenced and will be further developed as the Super 14 season progresses.

The situation will be monitored on an ongoing basis. John Mitchell is the Head Coach of the Emirates Western Force and has a contract through to 2011 and this has not changed.

The coaches, support staff and players are firmly committed to the season ahead and they wish to focus on the opening game against the Blues at Subiaco Oval on Friday night"

    Post Mitchell keeps coaching job

    Mitchell keeps coaching job

Western Force chairman Geoff Stooke says Super 14 coach John Mitchell will keep his job after the club received the results of an independent inquiry into Mitchell's behaviour.

However, the Force will keep the findings of the inquiry confidential, although Mitchell has been told to tone down his authoritarian stance on the team.

Last December, the Force went to the extraordinary length of hiring retired Supreme Court Judge Robert Anderson QC to investigate complaints made by both players and coaching staff against Mitchell.

Mitchell was temporarily stood down from his duties while Justice Anderson completed his interviews.

"A number of issues have been identified and consistent with the recommendations from Mr Anderson, action has, or will be taken to address these issues," Stooke said in a statement.

"The issues will remain confidential and are matters for the board and management.

"However, it is acknowledged that one of the major outcomes from the report is to ensure greater 'buy in' from support staff and players and to have maximum utilisation of the personnel resources within the organisation.

"The situation will be monitored on an ongoing basis, John Mitchell is the head coach of the ... Western Force and has a contract through to 2011 and this has not changed.

"The coaches, support staff and players are firmly committed to the season ahead and they wish to focus on the opening game against the Blues at Subiaco Oval on Friday night."

And let's just hope that, consistent with him treating them like adults, the days of them acting like kids are gone....

THE long awaited report into the coaching-player chaos at the Western Force will remain under wraps.

RugbyWA Chairman Geoff Stooke has refused to reveal the findings of the report by Robert Anderson QC into coach John Mitchell and the complaints about his coaching style

The extraordinary move to bring in the retired judge came after 31 players and 10 support staff registered their complaints.

A mediation process between Mitchell and his assistants was also put in place and the former All Blacks coach was sidelined from a hands-on coaching role.

The report was given to the RugbyWA board on Friday and in a bland statement Mr Stooke said today that the RugbyWA board had received the report and accepted its contents and continued to stress his support for Mitchell as head coach.

reckon the report and interview transcripts would make some pretty interesting reading, but the lesson that needs to be learnt from all this is (and sorry for saying this while the vic thing is going on) but if there is smoke, dont wait to see flame before you act!

And so far kept that way by all the players and staff. MUCH to the disappointment of all the media hacks here and in the East. Sounds like a pretty tight ship doesn't it?

There's a lot to be said in for a seige mentality if you can use it to good effect.

All sounds like a great PR exercise to keep the media at bay. If they are going to release it it has worked..... funny how it was released just prior to the start of the season.
