Australia Day Honour for Wallabies Great

    Story by: ARU

One of the greatest centres ever to wear the gold jersey, Tim Horan has been acknowledged in the Australia Day’s Honours List. He becomes a Member of the Order of Australia, for his Rugby skills, and his work as an Ambassador for the Spinal Education Awareness Team, run by the Spinal Injuries Association of Queensland, and mentoring programme Aunties and Uncles for at-risk children.

Tim, who played 80 Tests for the Wallabies after bursting onto the International stage as a 19 year old, believes athletes have a responsibility to set a good example and hopes he has been a good mentor to young people.

He has been working with the Spinal Injuries Association of Queensland for more than three years, and is passionate about helping to prevent spinal injuries. As an Ambassador, he visits up to 90,000 Queensland school children each year to speak about spinal injury prevention alongside a team of wheelchair-bound volunteers. He is also an Ambassador for Aunties and Uncles – a non-profit organisation offering friendship, role-modelling and support for children in single parent or parentless families.
