yeah i know when i was arrived in perth many people told me that i was not a real west australian because i was not born there. And there is the constant comparisons with the other parts of australia. there is no need

its like the liverpool and london. in liverpool if you say you are from london they say so what do you think of liverpool?, those arrogant london buggers. compare well dont we.

the response is from the londoner is, i have never really thought about it. seems nice.

when the situations are reversed , and some one says i am from liverpool the londoner says , its nice there.

I am not a sydney or melbourne lover but i find perth to be the same. i think it is a normal human trait.

its a bit wordy and illogical , she long and the short of it is that smaller places think big cities are out to get them.

and the big places , its not something they think about.

Yep, inferiority complexes are made up without any grounds or basis what-so-ever and are best judged by first generation residents as to their validity.

For example I honestly don’t know what those bloody winging Scots might have against the lovely English, I visited both London and Edinburgh, they all seemed like it should be roses betwean each other…

Yeah... could be a little bit of history there... you know, the odd war here and there...

(or did I just miss some sarcasm?)

To me there are several parts to WA's parocialism.

There is a real historical basis to it. WA started taking convicts after the eastern colonies stopped, and WA was then pressured/lobbied heavily by political campaigns in from the east. Fact was WA needed the labour they provided. We were the only colony that was not growing and badly needed infrastucture to survive.
Come Federation referendum time it was only the vote from the goldfields which got WA over the line as a YES. Effectively this meant that it was Eastern states miners who got it across the line.
Mostly I find that most sandgropers biggest gripe with the other states is generally economic in current times ie we are putting more in to federal taxation than we are getting out.
To be honest I find that each Australian state somehow feels unappreciated by the other states. When I was once in Sydney I was amazed at how insistent some of them were that it was the best city in Australia (couldn't wait to get out of there myself). We are very much a federation of states, for better or worse.

its true but from a taxi driver and pub questions the only place more that makes more comparisons is melbourne. i think perth is wonderful i dont think we need to compare.

sydney is wonderful if you are loaded and a dive if your broke.

Yes Dave there is, as Cowboy far more eloquently put it, we have been getting shafted at a political level and asset "raped" at a individual visiting worker level for years.
We continually get told what a backward hole our state and capital is and how it needs to join the "modern times"/"21st century" etc by the pontificators from the east yet they are quite happy to come out and exploit it because it suits them to briefly consider it part of Australia to do that.
For those that don't like it, piss off and we'll get some more hairy backs and Zims to take your place, at least they appreciate the joint.

    BDavey-esque rant over...

Tragic, yes, a waterfall of sarcasm.

To be honest though Burgs I think that there is some truth in the way JD see's it. It's not that the East hasn't shafted us in the past, it's that they don't care enough about us to be bothered realising they have.

Queenslanders also crack me up, always telling me that what we need are poker machines.

    Phew!

This country abounds with interstate rivalries. It seems natural that the eastern states press are always spouting rubbish about a "western" team.
When the Eagles joined the GayFL it was the same, and the carping didn't stop until the Eagles started being finals contenders. I don't expect it will be much different for the Force.

    Thanks Burgs.

I (and plenty of other people around here) moved here of my own volition, pay taxes here, bought a house here, vote here, do my small part to keep the wheels of commerce turning and one day might raise a whole bunch of yellow-and-black-eyed Sandgropers, who knows?

But all that counts for shit apparently. It's just 'exploiting the state'

    Nice.

How did a thread about the Tahs beating a bunch of Figians turn into accusing 'new West Australians' of 'asset-raping' the state anyway?

It is one of those sweeping generalisation statements that my only response is, "If the hat fits".
By your own description it would seem that you are here to stay and therefore "the hat" probably doesn't and all power to you, the more the merrier.
If you choose to classify yourself as an itinerant worker from the East and take offence when "plenty of other people around here" didn't then good luck to you too.

i think the main thing to remember here is the waratahs are undefeated in 2009, while the force are yet to win!

it doesnt matter if your from WA, NSW, QLD or Tassie for that matter, the facts are the facts!
