    RWC New Zealand

read an article in an English mag today with an interview with the Kiwi who is orgainising the RWC in New Zealand.

Pool Matches will be in September
    Finals October 2011.

Tickets will go on sale on Jan 1st 2010.
Pool matches will be announced March 2009.

Accommodation should not be an issue for the Pool Matches for the finals could be a problem. They are talking about 2 cruise ships with 1000 punters sailing from Christchurch to Auckland to generate extra beds during the tournament !

Ticket prices are expected to be similar to prices for ALL Blacks (hoping some Kiwis will be able to give actual figures here) for the pool matches - they are hoping to attract the natives as they don't expect as many international visitors as the French had.

Tickets for the finals will be more expensive in line with the French RWC prices.

The Kiwis are expecting to make a loss(11 million) - The RWC demand the first 50 million for the privilege of hosting the tournament and then take the TV rights as well. The only source of income open to the Kiwis is the ticket sales - (their stadium capacities are less than the French as well.)

Anyways the rub - many of the premium tickets will be tied into accommodation packages don't know what percentages etc.. but hopefully enough to limit the scalpers.

Guess we will have to wait till March to find out more

Why bother to book tickets in advance and go through all the BS?

For the last RWC we left Australia with 2 tickets between the 8 of us.

We managed to buy good tickets for all the pool games we wanted to go to outside the stadia from genuine sellers and desperate would be scalpers for face value or less.

I doubt it will be any different in NZ.

No, Burgs, it only took a few minutes to locate a woebegone seller, and we left the serious piss drinking till after the game; no point in spending all that money to get there and then not remember the games!

Ah the cheeses, the sausages, the wines, the freshly baked steaming baguettes!

Tell me again why it's being held in bloody New Zealand, the land of the epicurean philistines and the drain cleaner wines?

Ah Fulvio ever the romantic - we got finals tickets and certainty - curtsey of RyanAir we flew in and out of most games for the princely sum of $22 each - except for Marseilles which was disastrous (we had to fly to Munich to get into the place and would have gladly gone back to England via Russia to get out of the place !)

If these packages are as steep as they sound then there could be many more scalpers this time - accommodation seems to be the key.

Come on Fulv we,ve had great fush and chups over in NZ. I reckon I could live on that and hokey pokey ice cream for a couple of weeks! As for accommodation we might look at hiring a camper van for the duration.

With my luck, I'd end up in a place that specializes in mutton birds and kina and only has Leopard beer on tap....

Just remember that the Poms always support their teams in force be it Football, Cricket or Rugby, they always get good value for money comming to Australia or NZ (currently 1 pound being worth $1.97 Australian and $2.49 New Zealand)

They will descend on NZ and leave nothing but empty pints and curry shops in their wake

Lots of advice I've been getting lately from TWF..excellent job people.

    So basically -

    1. Don't worry too much about trying to get tickets in advance especially if heading for the prelims.

    2. Accomodation then is the key factor.

    3. There should be plenty of food (fush and chups) and grog (I've been told that Tui is choice) for my not too sophisticated palate.

    1. if you require tickets for the big pool games, (aus vs ire, scot vs eng, sa vs wal. all ab's games) id advise you to get them prior to going but if you want to take your chances and then you miss out, you can just head straight to one of the RWC live sites and watch it on the big screens or the nearest pub, there always seemed to be tickets available for the mid week games in france at the venues before kick off.

    2. finding good accomodation can be a pain in the arse and very expensive, the RWC is in town so all prices go through the roof. get in early on this one as soon as the fixtures and dates are anounced start looking....

    3. whats food, no time to eat at these events!!
