Force approaches Federal gov for handout

I read in THE Worst today that the force will be approaching the gov for federal funding in helping them upgrade ME.
Apparently WA has recieved the least ammount of sports infrastrucure funding of all the States..

    WA $2.42 mil
    TAS $9.1 mil
    NT $9.75 mil
    VIC $45 mil
    SA $50 mil
    QLD $55 mil
    NSW $99 mil

Ron Alexander, head of the Dept of Sport & recreation was quoted as saying "It's just not viable, Increasing members Equity to hold 25000 would require the community to subsidise the venue to the tune of $3 mil to $4 mil a year, I'd like to see a business case from the Force that shows how they will be profitable there"

He also said that the $25 mil gov funding promised in 2004 was "off the table"
"Rugby didn't want it because they told us after their first year they were staying at Subiaco oval"

    ----

my question to this is surely he is contradicting himself a little. if the government didnt think it was viable why did they offer that money in the first place?????

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

with more infrastructure to maintain and with a bigger population?

apart from an upgrade to MES and the AFL always crapping on about wanting an upgarde to Subi, what else is there here to need money for?

The Wildcats can't sell out Challenge Stadium

I'm surprised to see that SA got more then Victoria

    WA population 2006= 1.9million
    NSW population 2006 6.5million

so by my calculations that means that:
    (99000000 / 6.5 ) * 1.9 = $28.9 Mil owed to WA
    Wheres our share???

or we could work it out the other way around?
    (2.420000/1.9)*6.5 = $8.3 Mil for NSW

yeah i know im being over simplistic but still it does give it some perspective!

the money comes from the federal government through applications and a commitee doesnt it?

sounds like rwa just has to put a busines case forward and they will get some!

dont forget if that money is for this year, the scg recived a grant for a new grandstand and the sfs has been upgraded in the last two years to accomadate more!

100 million isnt that much really!

The article was very specific about RugbyWa needing to put forward a business plan for the funding - apparently the Langenaut report dismissed this option on the grounds that rugbywa would end up carrying the stadium financially as the other tenants couldn't afford a rent increase.

Seemed a bit rough would have thought that the onus would be on Nick Tanna to put forward a business case - which must be better now we are tenants.

what money has WA asked for though?
There are quite a few NSW stadiums and sporting facilities that have put projects forward to the government for funding, the Bradman Museum and the stadium at Manly are two that come to mind.

The SA contribution has mostly gone towards creating a bigger albino pachyderm stadium than the one in WA.

I know that for the Asian champions league final at Hindmarsh, there was the idea of putting temporary seating in to increase the capacity. I think from memory, it was going to effectively cost $200 per seat to install, with approximately 20-25% for that cost recouped from ticket sales.

My question is since when does a public servant get to decide what government funding is on or off the table? Also who is the "us" he's referring to? I would have thunk that the only body the Force would need to talk to about their tenancy arrangements at Subiaco Oval would be the landlord, the WAFC. I can't see what it would have to do with the Dept of Sport & Rec.

The other thing I thunk was that if you can't change your requirements in view of changed circimstances, WTF are the WAFC/AFL on about anyway?
