George Smith set to meet with French rugby club Toulon

AUSTRALIA star George Smith is the latest big name player to be sounded out by French rugby.
Smith was due to have a meeting with Toulon rugby club president Mourad Boudjellal overnight, according to French sports paper L'Equipe.
The club controversially recruited league's Sonny Bill Williams in the middle of his contract with the Bulldogs.
Smith, 28, signed a three-year deal with the ACT Brumbies in 2006 that took him through to the 2009 season.
He was reportedly due to visit Toulon's stadium and meet club directors with a view to a contract starting next June.
At least two other French clubs, Brive and Clermont, have expressed an interest in signing him.
The interest in Smith follows Bayonne's $9.6m offer to Wallaby teammate Matt Giteau.
Smith stood in for concussed Stirling Mortlock as Australia's captain in their 18-11 win over the star-studded Barbarians at Wembley last week.
He was man of the match in the historic clash that marked 100 years since Australia's Olympic gold medal for rugby in London.
The veteran of 96 tests, Smith was this week named a nominee for the Rugby Union Player's Association 2008 Medal of Excellence, which he won last year. He has already been named Brumbies player of the year, the Australian Super 14 player of 2008 and was awarded the John Eales Medal.

I have it on good authority that Bambam likes his meat RAW!

Biltong is South African dried meat. The word comes from Dutch with BIL meaning buttock and TONG meaning strip. Biltong has been around for centuries; for instance, a more primitive form, the Dutch tassal, was also prepared in certain areas of France during the late Middle Ages. Tassal was also made in Batavia, and made its way to South Africa with the Dutch settlers where it was adapted to the less pungent biltong.

    BOKKE
“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

How interesting. It will be a shame to see him go. Our Dave will shuffle up in the pecking order, good African lad he is. But Smithy has been fantastic this season and it would be a real shame to see him go. He is getting on a bit though, isn't he? He's 29 next year, but he's still playing fantastic rugby. Would be a real shame to see him go... Hope he doesn't

I agree, lets send WAUGH instead

ZIM I'm drooling too now. My dad makes his own 'tong and I live off the stuff. My old maths teacher is from Zim and he used to bring tong to class... Good times. And he shared with me, not the other saffa girl. I felt special BamBam has excellent taste if he likes some biltong!

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

Hopefully Smith will stay on however he needs to make the most of his opportunities. His foreign interest will increase his worth when next he meets with the ARU. Smith is the next Wallabies Captain who would likely take the Wallabies through to the next RWC.

While I admire your worship of young Pocock who is talented, his time has not come. Next year he will have to compete for the 7 bench spot. Waugh will be gone and others will contend. Bam Bam was on tour so the Wallabies could claim him as a future just like Quade Cooper and James O’Connor.

George Smith will play on with his brother at the brumbies until 2011...

Under-rate Bam Bam at your own peril.

Muddy says a lot of stuff to his peril Burgs. I agree Bam Bam has done enough in limited opportunities this year to stitch up the loose forward slot on the bench. If George doesn't play Bam Bam will start, If George does play it seems to be that Bam comes on for Brown dog and George plays #8.

Wauch is washed up and they will be looking for another fetcher to back up those two (in case of injuries or retirement)
