    Croc vs Wallaby

    Croc vs Wallaby

    November 27th, 2008

JULIAN Huxley has bravely faced up to burly Kiwi front rowers and survived a battle with a brain tumour.

But the former Wallaby admits he was petrified when he came face to face with a 5m saltie at Crocosaurus Cove this week.

Huxley, 29, who was in Darwin to promote the Heineken Hottest 7s tournament to be held here in January, decided to take the plunge in the cove's "cage of death" on Tuesday.

"We got the option of going in with the normal croc or the vicious one," he said.

"We took the angry one and he gave us a bit of a welcome. He was a bit cranky, I think.

"When we started to get lower into the water you could tell he was p***ed off."

The full back said he wasn't usually the type to test his intestinal fortitude in the water.

"I have been on a few trips to South Africa where they do a similar thing with great white sharks, but I have always been too chicken," he said.

Bert the croc made sure the experience was one Huxley and his mate Mitch Dale will never forget - lashing out at the glass cage on several occasions, with only a pane of glass separating the human pair from certain death.

But Huxley said once he felt sure the croc wasn't going to smash the cage and eat him, he started to have some fun.

"You get your confidence in the cage," he said.

"After a little bit it was more just cool to see him in his element."

I'm thinking you would want that barrier to go a few feet above the water line too...

I was thinking the same thing, what's to stop him from coming over the top?

Triple j announcer Marieke Hardy also went in the cage of death a few weeks ago, must've been the calmer croc as it never bothered to go her...The difference between Sharks and crocs is the glass or perspex cage versus steel...I also believe that there is a breathing area of a foot or so above the perspex for snorkel, and probably a grill of sorts you would presume, whereas shark cages are full respirator and steel enclosures....

Plus a Koala with a taser just in case the croc gets out of control Larry.
