Perhaps even a permanent section on the history of rugger in WA?
A lot of the guests coming to this site from other states and countries may be interested to find out how lomng the game has been going, it's one of the regular arguements from some quarters that there is NO rugby culture in WA etc, this may help dispel that myth.
    You up for it no.8?

I'm expecting a lot of new rugby fans also who haven't had much to do with the game before WA getting their own team.

Sounds like a fine idea for a new forum area reckon we should have a "History" or "The Game" section of of the Rugby forum? -We could have multiple threads, or sub forums for State, National and International too... Naming suggestions anyone?

www.rl1908.com/Rugby-Positions.htm (Great historical stuff here no.8 etal)

    www.colonialrugby.com.au (Australian history)

    www.colonialrugby.com.au/perth-wa.htm

Thanks for the great links Burgs! I'm looking forward to learning game. The "scrum" looks pretty wild. Hopefully I'll get a chance to catch a game on cable, or take a trip up to Princeton and catch a college game. In the mean time maybe I'll buy a PS2 or Xbox game and play it with my son!

Redbull is correct in the history & name of gridiron.

It was oringinal called "Bloody Monday" because it was so brutal.
Concern over the increasing brutality of the game led to its ban by some colleges. Nearly one hundred eighty players had suffered serious injuries, and eighteen deaths had been reported from the brutal mass plays that had become common in practice. In nineteen hundred five, President Theodore Roosevelt called upon Harvard, Princeton, and Yale to help save the sport from demise.

Is there are book or the like been put out on WA Rugby history that you would have got that from?
I would be interested to hunt down a copy if it exists.

Yes Burgs, I have a book called "Australian Rugby - The game and the player's" by Jack Pollard.

It is pretty rare now and hard to come by.

It is pretty old and I have some history to tell him about when I meet him!
