Frustrated Gatland left to query his future after region row

WARREN Gatland’s frustration over the big player release row with the regions has led to him questioning his position as Wales coach.

The announcement that David Moffett has been helicoptered in to fight the regions’ corner over the issue did little to placate anyone in the Welsh Rugby Union camp yesterday, Gatland included.

Moffett opened his tenure up by insisting the players would not be released sooner than the five days before the opening Autumn Series Test against world champions South Africa on November 8.

And Gatland responded with some fairly grim sounding assertions of his own.

He said: “It’s very disappointing. I suppose it’s taken a real gloss off my position really.”

Asked specifically whether he was considering his position as Wales coach, Gatland replied: “You might have to look at that.
