Suck it up boys. Caught cheating. End of story. The only comparison with other's ball-tampering is that they should have copped more time for being so fkn stupid. Very weak cop-out from a poor skipper. And even weaker decision from the administrators for even considering Warner as a leader. Rant over.

    Headlines in NZ

    "cheated by countback"

    "super over ruined it"

    "obscure rule gave England title"

If only they would realise that the rule didn't cheat them or lose them the game, their lack of boundaries in the final did. They all knew the rules and even got a reminder when it counted most at the end.

    Well done POHMs

That boundary count back is absolute rubbish and a farcical way to end a World Cup.

If they got other adjudications incorrect, that is a completely different matter.

yeah I know I just thought it was an amusing segway.

Also worth noting though there is not much point in warning the players there will be a count back after 50 overs with 1 over to go if that's what happened (I didn't watch). Your right though the rules were there at the start of the game but to be fair to the kiwis I think most reasonable people would say cricket is about runs and wickets e.g DLS which is why most would say the methodology is unfair.

Why count more boundaries as the tie-breaker?

Why not the team that physically ran more runs, rather than the lazy blighters hitting boundaries?

After all, we want kids to be more active, so reward the more active side!

You can’t say the Kiwis knew the rules of the super over and ignore the earlier lapse by the umpires.

If the game is correctly officiated that deflection is only 5 and the result is the poms need 4 off of 2 with Adil Rashid on strike.

Need to go back to a replay. Super over is a bad idea for 50 over Cricket. Teams have been going at it for weeks and they decide it by this. You can win one by scoring leg byes.

Agree 100%, leave that garbage in T20 where it belongs.

If the final was rained out the trophy would have been shared, no ridiculous count back and they wouldn’t have even referred to the League stage either.

Yet a final that was tied twice has a count back to some ridiculous rule regarding boundaries. In this age of Cricket the bowler can beat the batsman but if he gets the slightest bit of bat on it it ends up going 14 rows back.

Play the Final on a Saturday the way it should be. Use the Sunday rest day for a replay. Sunday Final only works in the NFL where there is a season round culture of over time.

Sunday was a stupid day for a Final with a rest day for Monday. Particularly with the majority of the countries in the World Cup ahead of the UK on time so they have working commitments the following day with a start at a late hour or if they are based on in the Middle East they work on a Sunday (weekend is Fri/Sat).

the rule seems to be unclear as the last act could be construed as the ball hitting the bat, when the batsmen had already crossed.
but then again, if 5 runs had been awarded, the last 2 balls may have been approached differently.

No, more fully the law references a throw or "the wilful act of a fielder". The last involvement of a fielder was the throw, and anything the ball does after that is irrelevant. They got it wrong, c'est la vie.
